Patmos is an attractive, picturesque and peaceful island, with scattered vegetation and an indented coastline. The worldwide fame of the Monasteries of St John and of the Apocalypse, the strength of its religious tradition and the wealth of the cultural treasures which are kept on the island, attract pilgrims from all over the world and help create the mystical atmosphere which embraces the island.

The excursion departs from Kos harbor by flying dolphin at 08:00, and the trip to Patmos takes about 2 hours, passing the islands Pserimos, Kalymnos, Leros, and Lipsi. On arriving in Patmos, a bus will be waiting at the harbor to take visitors to the Monastery of St. John which is situated in the centre of Chora and which dominates the island. The Monastery houses superb wall paintings and a carved wooden sanctuary screen. The treasury of the Monastery holds a wealth of various precious objects that have survived throughout the centuries. Amongst these are some famous gold-woven Episcopal vestments decorated with precious stones, sacred vessels, jewelled crosses, and miters of emperors and patriarchs. The library of the Monastery contains about 900 manuscripts and more than 2.000 old books and 13.000 documents. The library is not open to the public.

The second monastery is the Monastery of the Apocalypse, which surmounts the cave in which St John the Evangelist, heard the voice of God. Here God inspired His disciple and dictated to him the “Prochorus”, the sacred text of the Book of Revelation (Apocalypse).

Following the visits to the Monasteries, clients have the opportunity to walk through the streets of Chora and to visit the traditional shops for mementos of this special island. The boat departs from Patmos at 16:00 hrs and arrives in Kos at 18:00 hrs
